Great British Seaside - Weymouth
A few weeks ago, Luke, Nanny Dawn, Dennis and I took a day trip to the wonderful Weymouth. It wasn't cold at all, but the sun was definitely hesitant to come out. For those who don't know, Weymouth is a small seaside town in England. Weymouth is famous for many things, including its world class sand and gorgeous watch tower. It took us a few hours to travel from Northampton to Weymouth, but Dennis (my Nan's partner) took us along the scenic route. I enjoyed going through all of the tiny villages and I wanted to stop at every single cafe and high street!
What trip to the seaside is complete without fish and chips! Fish and chips restaurants are all over Weymouth, you really have the pick of the bunch. Ours was delicious and I savoured every mouthful.
We took a walk around the beach front and around the harbour. There was some kind of festival on when we went, and there were hundreds of food and craft stands. I was in heaven! We had some fresh mussels to nibble on as we walked around. The shops around the harbour are mostly independent, and you can pick up some really lovely bits from there.
After walking around, and the sun finally beginning to show, we stopped off and had a 99. You can see my nan utterly perplexed at what I'm doing here! It was nice to refuel with a cup of tea and ice cream before the next part of our day trip.
We finished our day with a trip to Portland. This is Portland Bill Lighthouse, which was quintessentially English. We paid a small fee to walk to the very top - it was quite a challenge! Quite a few hundred steps in a swirly staircase, learning about the history of this famous lighthouse.
This is Portland Bill, named so for the bill shape on the edge. There was a really nice cafe here that did serve food, but we again opted for a lovely cup of tea.
The sun had come out in full force now, and I slightly regretted wearing my snuggly warm jumper.
Weymouth and Portland are lovely places to visit if you ever get the chance. With all the elements of a typical British seaside town, I think you are sure to have a wonderful time. There are lots of B&B's, incredibly cheap for their location, if you wish to say overnight. I wish we did!
Thanks for Reading,
Eleanor
