Mini Book Haul!
Recently Amazon has had a 3 for £10 paperback book deal, and I had to take advantage of this! A few of the books weren't in the deal but I had been lusting over them for quite some time so decided to treat myself.
The first book I HAD to have is A Song for Issy Bradley, by Carys Bray. First published in 2014, this book is relatively new on the scene but has already received high praise. This book is about a "normal" family, but Issy Bradley (mum) can not longer face getting out of bed. I am currently battling my own depression and am interested to read in how it is portrayed in this story, and am hopeful that I have a good review to give you all once i've read this!
A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman was my next choice. I adored the Harold Fry novel, and seem to love stories about grumpy old men??? very strange i must admit. This story tells of the grumpiest man you'll ever meet - Ove. He thinks everyone is an idiot, and when his new neighbours move in he brands them just the same. I am really interested to see Ove's journey, and maybe some of his past too.
Of course, I had to have this one. I loved The Lunar Chronicles and adored the Thone Of Glass series, and have heard this to be very good indeed. Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard tells of a world where people are divided by the colour of their blood, red or silver. Those with red blood are your labourers, working class people. There is one girl, Mare, who threatens to change it all.
Okay, I love the YA genre at the moment, even the current wave of dystopian other-worldy novels. I am hoping this lives up to the hype, as it's been likened to The Hunger Games which I feel practically every YA Dystopian novel is at the moment. I am excited to give this one a read though!
The next is Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo, Book 1 of The Grisha. As previously mentioned I love books set in another world, and this one sounds like it may even include magic?! Anything that can tastefully bring faes, or magic, or anything like that to me is a winner in my eyes!
Finally, I finish with Us by David Nicholls. I LOVED One Day, and I have heard mix reviews about this story meeting the high expectations set by One Day. This story tells of a scientist and an artist who have been married for more than 20 years, whose marriage suddenly seems over. I'm hoping this story runs deeper, like how One Day did.
What do you think to my mini book haul? Do any of them tickle your fancy?
Thanks for Reading,
Ellie
